“I became a journalist to come as close as possible to the heart of the world.”
Hi there,
I'm Jon, and I'm a newspaper journalist aspiring to become a leader in the next generation of digital news.
I currently work at the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, where I drum away at the police, fire and court beats. I also produce business features, personality profiles and upkeep a monthly regional employment story, among many other responsibilities.
I began my journalism career as an undergraduate staff writer at The Slate, the independent student-run newspaper at Shippensburg University. Through hard work and dedication, I earned the position of editor-in-chief and led the organization during my senior year. The Slate experienced an increase in paper circulation and social media reach while I led it, and I accomplished this while heavily investing in a young staff.
Although I now spend most of my days breaking news in the police and court realm, I have humble beginnings in The Slate's entertainment section, where I covered campus performances and wrote reviews of current pop culture releases.
I am trained in covering breaking news, writing features and maintaining columns. Additionally, I know how to captivate and grow a social media audience and I can shoot my own photos and video.
While I'm employed full-time, I am still seeking opportunities to continue freelancing for national organizations outside the Central Pennsylvania region. If there's a story I can help you tell, please leave me a message on my contact page and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Previous publications I have been published in include The Slate, The Carlisle Sentinel, Wilson Magazine, The Shippensburg News-Chronicle and SUMag.
